Save Havelock House
Demolition Plans
Since 2019, Olympian Homes have produced two proposals for the demolition of Havelock House and its replacement by a high-density apartment complex.
Although Olympian says that the development is aimed at the 'buy to rent' market, the company specialises in student accommodation and the design of its proposals are consistent with student flats.
Its previous developments are noted for their functional architecture and overbearing impact on neighbouring properties.
The company maintains an extremely low-profile and is reluctant to engage with local communities and elected officials. It prefers to deal with unelected council officials.
It has a history of making preposterious statements to support its developments. In 2021, the company claimed that York Cemetery was a "community venue" as it battled residents opposed to its plans to demolish an actual venue - a historic local bingo hall.
Its current proposals for Havelock House - Millbridge House - contains no reference to the historic building beyond references to its address.
It also describes the site as 'disused', a situation which has only arisen because it evicted the tenants using Havelock House in April 2022.

While residents and councillors struggle to meet the Olympian team, they are always happy to meet officials. Here they are with the then chief executive of Belfast City Council, Suzanne Wylie in 2018.
